The Latin American and Caribbean Country Code Top-Level Domain Organization (LACTLD) introduces its domain search engine, an online consultation service on the availability of domains between the different countries of the region.
This development is the result of the collaborative work between LACTLD, NIC Chile and associated registries. Rocío de la Fuente, general manager of the organization, highlights this tool as "a pioneering and unique initiative in the global ecosystem, which is involved in regional challenges in terms of inclusion, transformation and digital presence, creating a channel that facilitates the supply of identification through domain names in the region".
The Search Engine is oriented to centralize and facilitate the delivery of information in a single interface. When searching for a domain name, the availability of registration in each country integrated into the project is displayed. For available names, a link is included to start registration directly on the respective country website. If the domain is registered, a link is presented to consult the public registration information.
NIC Chile has participated significantly in the creation of this new service, collaborating both in its ideation, design and implementation, as well as in the maintenance tasks and development of new functionalities. José Urzúa, Head of Systems Development at NIC Chile and leader of the Search Committee, states that this project has made it possible to express collaboration between partners in a practical way, advancing smoothly, thanks to the technical talent of the teams that make up each LACTLD associated registry. “From the moment the idea was presented, we immediately had a group of volunteers willing to collaborate on different tasks, including: initial definitions and project stages, documentation, systems architecture design, programming, graphic design, terms of service, translations, systems installation”, says the co-developer of the Search Engine.
Luis Arancibia, a NIC Chile lawyer and president of the board of directors of LACTLD honors the strengths of this collaborative work stating: "This is an inclusive, safe and reliable initiative that facilitates the growth of the regional digital economy, offering a free showcase without intermediaries for the consultation of names in the region in one place and with a single click”.
The Search Engine website is available in three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese, and currently has fifteen integrated registries: .AR, .BR, .CL, .CO, .CR, .DO, .EC, .GT, . HN, .MX, .PE, .PR, .PY, .SV, and .UY, which already represents about 85 percent of the registered domains in the region.
NIC Chile highlights the Domain Search Engine as a relevant collaborative effort of LACTLD, which will contribute to the integration and digital transformation in Latin America and the Caribbean and invites its clients and users to learn about and use this platform at https://buscador. lactld.org/.
